Sometimes I get lost in photos,
staring off into space,
bridging the gap between
two worlds –
mine and the girl who took my place
but as my eyes connect with hers
the evidence is clear…
maybe I was just holding her spot
until she could make it here..

“We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep into our own history and our doctrine and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes which were for the moment unpopular.” – Edward R. Murrow

“Wanting to change the world is not a noble calling, it’s a primal calling.” – Hugh MacLeod
You may have the power
to cast hexes with your eyes
throw curses with your fingertips
sling arrows discreetly
and mask it all with a smile
You may have the power
to hold others hostage
to your every thought, word, and deed
and force them down to their knees
to see from your level
You may have the power
to hide from disgrace
wrapped in a protective circle
of those who are taught
to fear you
You may have the power
to keep the world from seeing
who you really are
but you will never have power
over me…

In honor of my grandma’s birthday, these cupcakes are wandering through the daisy garden in hopes of seeing the wizard…
Sex and the City Mini Tier

I love the concept of a mini-tiered cake. It functions the same way as a full blown double layer tiered cake, only a little smaller and with half the baking time. It also works perfectly for a small party and looks really nice and festive.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that this might be my cake of choice for awhile, so expect to see more of these rolling out..
This cake started very similarly to my writing – an annoying, nagging idea that came suddenly and wouldn’t go away. Early one Sunday morning, while most sane, normal people were sleeping, my head was racing a mile a minute as I was sitting at R’s computer drawing up a quick template in the Paint application. When poor unsuspecting R woke up three hours later, I was still tweaking and tinkering with colors, minute decorations, and finishing touches.
This particular finished cake isn’t the final concept but it’s a good start. I certainly have a lot to improve upon, but in the meantime I can’t wait to see my die hard SATC fan friend’s reaction to her birthday cake tomorrow..

Moon dust
flows down my cheeks
and sparkles from the neon yellow
just above my head.
It’s almost time to call
and tell you it’s too late –
we have to wait another four hours
for that first kiss hello.
We’ve lost sleep together
and late dinners in velvet dresses
while your eyes
size me up
and tell me
you wish to know the rest..
A Writer’s Wish

Apparently I somehow knew I was destined to write a blog that other (sometimes insomniac) writers would read one day. In one of my old notebooks from college I had written this:
I don’t know whether to wish you
sweet dreams or happy writing,
so I wish you both.

Only one more day until
I get my hands
on something new
then I will chase
those crazy dreams
in a brand new life
away from you…
I could hang my head
with pain and shame
for the misguided fool
who takes my place
but instead I will choose
to hold on tightly
cause my transport mode
is set to ‘escape’…
