This was inspired from reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I’m still on the first book but so far I highly recommend it…

I don’t want to know
what tomorrow brings -
the thought keeps me
from breathing;
I carry my torch beneath my skin
so the light will never show,
If the flames betray
and give me away
then I’ll burn warm as winter
and cloak myself in icy white
like a forest full of snow.

I’m sailing on a sea of storms
I’m not allowed to drown in
I’m looking through a mask of tears
that aren’t allowed to flow
so I’ll put on my bravest smile
then they can never touch me
cause the final price -
my sacrifice -
is all part of the show.

I’ve been gone for so long
I’ve almost forgotten the rhythm
but I still embrace it
with the poet’s soul….

I think about you
when I hear something worthwhile
and from the edge of this universe
sometimes I smile
Then I am here
laid bare in repose
a poorly made canvas full of
razorblade cracks
and tiny blue flowers
with the roots exposed..

I can’t help it..
