The Flame

This was inspired from reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I’m still on the first book but so far I highly recommend it…

I don’t want to know
what tomorrow brings -
the thought keeps me
from breathing;
I carry my torch beneath my skin
so the light will never show,
If the flames betray
and give me away
then I’ll burn warm as winter
and cloak myself in icy white
like a forest full of snow.

I’m sailing on a sea of storms
I’m not allowed to drown in
I’m looking through a mask of tears
that aren’t allowed to flow
so I’ll put on my bravest smile
then they can never touch me
cause the final price -
my sacrifice -
is all part of the show.

Beautiful, as always Lisa. I’m here to make a request. I have a new magazine, a lit and arts journal called Tuck Magazine. I want so much for you to submit two of your poems to me. If you do, send them to: submissions@tuckmagazine.com as a word doc or in the body of the email. PS I LOVE your photos too. :)

      Hi Val!

It’s so great to see you here! I feel like I’m so far behind; I’ve been so busy with school that I haven’t had much time to devote to my writing. If I come up with something to send you, though, I would be honored to be part of your magazine.
