When fate closes one door…

December 19, 2007 at 2:31 am (clutter, life philosophies, personal)

It’s amazing the kind of closure that fate can bring. Sometimes when I can’t clean up my own messes, she steps in to assist me.

This year has been the year of closure in so many ways: I found and lost a friend I’d wondered about for years. I met my online best friend of ten years for the first time face to face. I told my first love what I really thought of him. I quit two jobs in exchange for a job I am very happy with. My relationship of two years ended bitterly at first..then peacefully. I’ve slowly felt myself growing apart from my best friend of 20 years. As a result, I’ve made new friends and become closer to older ones. I’ve learned the value of honesty, and that I can’t hide from myself. Most importantly, I’ve discovered that before you can truly find love, you have to be able to love yourself.

I feel stronger and wiser than I did one year ago.

Everything happens for a reason. When the burdens are lifted and carried away, the mind clutter begins to weigh a little less. The world no longer feels quite so evil and scary. While yesterday’s happiness could be tomorrow’s grief, everything checks and balances so it will not spiral so far out of hand that it can’t be tolerated in some regard.

This, too, shall pass.

I stumbled upon your page searching for…I’m not sure what. Struggling, perhaps, might be a better word. I was interested to read your short sentence about meeting your online friend of 10 years for the first time. Curious that it would be so small a comment on what must have been a moving moment. My best friend, whom I’ve never met, and I are mulling over the age old question…should we do it. I would really like to hear the rest of your story, and maybe gain a little perspective.
